A project manager is a specialist responsible for the successful and high-quality implementation of a project in the specified terms, within a fixed budget, high quality frames, and complying with the requirements of the customer to achieve its satisfaction.

Having in mind this, the functions Project Managers carry out at Wagner are

  • Project planning
  • Creation of the team of linguists.
  • Knowing all the programs that are needed for quality work.
  • Clarification of the tasks and details of the project.
  • Coordination of the group of linguists working on a project.
  • Management and project time control
  • Coordination of linguists and editors.
  • Monitoring project quality.
  • Monitoring possible risks and developing a plan for these cases.
  • Communication Management
  • Communication with the customer.

Each Project Manager should be able to manage conflicts and negotiate. He or she needs to be able to negotiate with clients, linguists and other managers within the company.

Translation is often part of a huge detailed project. For example, in the case a client needs to print instructions for a product, the translator has to handovers his work to designers. Therefore, delays in transfer can involve consequences, such as loss of time and money, that’s why managers have a great responsibility and they make every effort to deliver on time and not to let the client down. To avoid such situations with delays, managers often choose experienced and verified linguists or set deadlines with a large margin.

There are also cases of shortage of translators or urgent orders. In such cases, there are additional databases of translators. Sometimes there are arising quality problems with both proven and new linguists, it happens even with a trusted linguist, the text is similar to machine translation, then the task of the manager is to make sure that such texts do not reach the client and maximize their quality.

Our company also uses editors to ensure the quality of translations, which help us cope with force-majeure situations. The project manager calculates the budget for the project and coordinates it with the linguist and the editor.

As we see in the work of the Project Manager there are advantages and disadvantages, lots of challenges and a fairly high stress resistance where creativity and resourcefulness are essential.
