The project manager is the person responsible of every detail in a project and that person ensures that the requirements are met. The Project Manager should have a lot of skills to be successful, like tools, techniques and knowledge.

The Project Manager always has been in charge of making decisions and in essence, that remains the same. However, what has changed is the closeness that the Project Manager has with the projects. That is why now we talk about the direction and management of projects, because the term "management" implies a more direct communication with staff, the project resources, deadlines, the design of tasks and the implementation of solutions.

As we mentioned before, the Project Manager is responsible of the project’s success or failure, so the PM have to follow some steps to maintain the quality of a project:

  • Planning, executing and closing project: define the project, building the work plan and manage the allocated budget.
  • Manage the team: have a good communication with the team, facilitating commitment and productivity, removing obstacles, and motivating the co- workers.
  • Manage expectations: achieve project requirements and meet the client expectation.

Project Management of translations, is responsible for the general coordination of the linguistic projects. The objective of this position is to be the intermediary that connects the needs of the client with the suppliers of the project. The Project Managers establish the steps and the appropriate procedures for the translation process: the initial analysis of the documents, development of a plan for the project and supervision of the members that participate in the project.

Qualities a PM should be:

-          To be organized.

-          Have the ability to handle many tasks simultaneously, solve problems and establish priorities to execute.

-          Be focused on the project details.

-          Be able to work with pressure and comply the pre-established delivery dates

-           Know how to work in a positive attitude, have determination and management skills.

-          Be able to lead the team and make decisions.

-          Have excellent communication skills and have negotiation skills.

-          Consult their clients, identify requirements and provide technical information.

-          Have experience in the localization and translation industry.

Finally, being a Project Manager is not an easy job, but it’s very interesting because this role has a lot of challenges and responsibilities. The PM must achieve goals, investigate and be updated, because every project is a new world that must be discovered under the proper direction; that's why at Wagner Consulting we have specialists in PM and relationships, which allows us to meet the client's objectives and create translation teams where people grow professionally and are valued for their contribution to our company.
