You either like subtitles or dubbing, but it seems like you can not like both. We really don’t know why is that. Kids mostly watch dubbed movies and shows, but this is because they don’t know how to read yet or they are learning to do it and they can’t keep up with the fast pace o subtitles. But as we grow, and our reading skills improve (we might have also learned another language) we go either for subtitled videos, tv shows, movies, documentaries, etc. or dubbed ones. As grown ups, the “freedom” to choose what to watch (kids are usually restricted by their parents) also makes us feel free to choose between the two options.

But why you either like one and probably despite the other one? We don’t know. Some people say they prefer to watch subtitled stuff because by keeping the original language we can appreciate the acting behind the actor’s voice and that feeling is totally lost in the dubbed version. People who prefer dubbing, on the other hand, argue that is better because this way you are able to really concentrate in the story and see the whole screen, paying attention to the details shown in the scenes instead of focusing on those white letters.

Although most people don’t like both things (subtitling and dubbing), there is indeed a "neutral ground" where, if you didn't like subtitling you “can” like dubbing and vice versa. That "neutral ground" is usually cartoons, many of them aimed for adults (and most of them, kids can watch too). Cartoons are having more and more presence worldwide, so the preferences to see them (subtitled or dubbed) are increasingly divided – sometimes it all depends on how popular the cartoon is in our country.
Another example of that "neutral ground" is anime, and how we can watch that anime also depends on how popular it is. If it isn’t very popular but you like it because maybe you read the manga or saw something on YouTube, you’ll probably watch it with subtitles. If it is popular, you’ll have both options depending on what segment of the audience it’s popular with - if it is popular among kids, there is a big chance it will be available only in the dubbed version.

Either you like subtitled or dubbed versions, it’s fine, no version is better than the other one; and both require skills, talent and work. There are hundreds of people working on both industries, so we can enjoy watching our favorite TV shows the way we like it.
