MOST COMMON MISTAKES IN TRANSLATION

Translating a document is not an easy task that anyone can perform. It is not enough to speak a language to be able to translate things. To do this, you have to know in depth, not only the source language and target, but also must keep in mind certain important points.
Linguists acquire different techniques throughout their years of study and professional experience, which are usually studied in modern language careers. When making a translation, it is necessary to keep in mind in the first place, the topic, area or theme of the project, whether it is about the world of medicine, automotive, educational, technological, corporate, legal, acquisitions. Each area of expertise has a language that can be very specific, so it is very important to take into account if the translator has any experience or knowledge in that area. As the area of expertise becomes more technical, the terminology used in the documents to be translated may become very specific and it is necessary to resort to glossaries of specialized terms depending on the area. This way, one of the most common errors when translating documents is prevented: the misuse or use of specific technical terminology.
However, translators who are not experts in the specific area, as mentioned above, can obtain a glossary of terms that allow them to translate words correctly.
Another popular error when working on a translation is the lack of understanding of the text that is being translated and, therefore, modifying or giving a different meaning to the text. In this case, it is advisable for the translator read and understand the source to be translated before making a literal translation, for which he must be capable both of understanding in the source language and in the target language. For example, a lack of understanding of a text may end up reversing the meaning of a paragraph, of what one wants to express. A very common mistake in translations is to invest the passive and active subject of the sentence.
Another error can occur in the lack of identification of the appropriate term within the context and the text, as well as the repetition of words that can be replaced by synonyms. In this sense, it is very important not only to have knowledge of the translation techniques but also to take care of the style, syntax and, of course, it is essential to take care of the grammar.
In short, to perform a translation requires that the linguist has a background, training, knowledge and experience sufficient to perform a job, according to its complexity.
