Language is our primary source if communication. Indeed, we share ideas and thoughts with other people thanks to it. Many consider our capacity of using a language is what makes us humans. Therefore, it makes that we acknowledge it. Each year, we celebrate the English Language Day on April 23. The specific day was chosen in 2010 to commemorate the traditional birthday and death of William Shakespeare, who is considered as the greatest writer in English.

Today, English is considered as one of the most important languages worldwide and it is “the language of business” but fifteen thousand years ago. The original English language was only spoken by three tribes.

Grammatically, English belongs to the Germanic family of languages and it shares lexical similarities with German, followed by French and then Russian. The language has had a long history, with its origins around 450 AD when tribes from Germany invaded medieval England.

Throughout the centuries. The British Empire expanded over many countries in Asia, Africa and America. In many cases, the British forced the people they ruled over to learn English so that there would be an official way of communication. Most countries still speak English even if it isn’t their main language.

Nowadays, English is such a key language that it enjoys official status in about 75 countries and it spoken in 188 countries around the world. The language is so expanded across different territories that it has several dialects and accents including the British accent, the Scottish accent, the American accent, the Australian accent, Indian accent, among others.

Why it is exactly that English is not simply a common language but an important one? English has been considered the world language for a long time and it is important for both, personal and professional goals.

Even when there are other languages at the top of the most spoken around the world, English is still considered a must since it opens new career opportunities. If you think about it, the landscape for businesses is global and companies need employees who will be able to communicate with partners and clients all over the world.

Moreover, English rules the digital world. It is the top language of the internet, with nearly 1 billion users. There are many more resources online in English, which is helpful not only for entertaining purposes but also when conducting a research, communicating with people from other countries, etc.
